Hack In The Box Security Conference 2009 – Malaysia

HITBSecConf2009 – Malaysia. The premier network security event in Asia and the Middle East. The main aim of our conference is to enable the dissemination, discussion and sharing of deep knowledge network security information. Since 2003, HITBSecConf has routinely brought some of the most respected members of the mainstream network security arena as well as the underground or black hat community to Asia. Our events have always highlighted new and ground-breaking attack and defense methods that have not been seen or discussed in public before.

HITBSecConf2009 – Malaysia will be our 7th conference in Malaysia and is expected to attract over 1000 attendees from around the Asia Pacific region and from around the world. This year’s event will see the continuation of our HITB Lab session which was introduced last year. These hands-on sessions are designed to give attendees a closer and deeper understanding of various security issues through the methodology of see / learn / do.

HITBSecConf2009 – Malaysia will also see a new and improved version of our highly popular team-based hacking competition known as Capture The Flag. First developed and presented at Defcon in the US, the idea behind a CTF competition is to allow for teams of three to hack into prepared servers running in order to retrieve marked files or flags on these target machines. Participants will also be required to defend their systems from attack. Teams will be judged on both their defensive as well as the offensive game play.

We believe HITBSecConf is an ideal platform for leading network security vendors to not only meet with some of the leading network security specialists but to also showcase their own technology and solutions with the public as well.

More info about Lamp2Win and original post in Malay
http://www.php.net.my/forum/thread.php/19/3910

More info about Hackathon Day MSC Open Source Conference 2009
http://www.mscoscon.my/

A competition will be hosted by PHP.net.my in conjunction with MSC Open Source Conference 2009 and will be held in Berjaya Time Square Hotel and Convention Centre Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 31st (Sunday) to the 3rd of June (Wednesday) 2009.

We would like to invite all the members from PHP.net.my and anyone who is interested to join the committee. The contest will be held 2 weeks before the actual event that ends on the 31st of May 2009 and the winner will be announced on that same day.

The winner of the competition will be granted cash prizes totaling RM 10,000.00 for all 5 categories. The prize money is sponsored by Microsoft Malaysia.

For now, PHP.net.my will choose 20 applications in 5 categories
1. Forum
2. Groupware
3. Blog
4. eCommerce
5. CMS/Portal

All the applications above will be asked to support the main database of MSSQL 2008. The applications are yet to be determine but in my opinion, it would be related to WordPress, Drupal and PHPBB.

The terms and conditions for the approved application must be the support of the main database for MSSQL. There may be a training or free courses that will be held in KL on “HOW TO” use PHP with the support of MSSQL and also on how to connect PHP with MSSQL using the existing drivers in PHP or PDO. (These workshops will also be sponsored by Microsoft)

The first steps required are:
1. Participation of Volunteers
2. Suggestions for related applications. Please note again that there are 20 application in 5 categories.

With this I hope that all the members of PHP.net.my will contribute ideas to the competition and help in raising the image of PHP.net.my. On MDeC side, participation can also improve opportunities for funding future developers. I will be updating the community from time to time with regards to this competition within this forum.

Please start you discussion. TQ

p/s: all the source code in the competition will be contributed back to the community (AND REMAIN OPEN SOURCE)

Hi all, this is a post to send out a headsup to all that we at OSA Cyber are interested to start having regular meetups in Cyberjaya every month starting this December in the MMU Cyberjaya campus.

We have decided to start this for the slightly tech savvier Cyberjaya community and its surrounding areas.

Time, date and speakers have not been finalised yet though, but we will update this site or the google groups as soon as we do.

In the meantime, leave a comment, register your interest here, or join the Open Source Alliance Cyberjaya google groups to also get more updates.
