Java open sourced

If you have not heard by now, well yes, Java and its innards has been open sourced after a year or two of Sun talking about it. Sun has put up a Open Source Java site with regards to this under their Open Source page.

There are comments from the community such as those from Java as well and different Open Source proponents around the world (includes Richard Stallman, Mark Shuttleworth, Tim O’Reilly and others) , including multimedia content on Flash or Ogg.

It’s pretty encouraging to see another development of support of open source initiatives by Sun, among the larger computer companies. We have already seen great open source support from IBM, Novell & Google. Gee, I really wonder who’s next…

LPI Exam on May 2007

The community based cheap LPI exams are back! We’re happy to announce that we’ll be organizing an LPI certification session in May 2007. This would be an excellent opportunity for working professionals, students and interested individuals to get certified at a low cost. The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is a non-profit organization geared to provide professional certification for the Linux Community.

Details follow:

Date of certification exam: 12th May 2007
Time: 9am
Proctor: Dr. Nah Soo Hoe
Cost: RM 180 per paper
Length of examination: 90 minutes
Deadline for registration and payment: 31st March 2007

Important note: The price has been increased from RM 120 to RM 180 due to changes in the LPIC pricing.

To register for the certification, send an email to ditesh@gathani.org and include the following information:

  1. Full Name
  2. NRIC Number
  3. Contact Number
  4. Certification exam you wish to take

Available exams include LPIC 101 and LPIC 102. Please view http://www.lpi.org/en/lpic.html for more information. You can take both the exams on the same day as the LPIC 102 exam will be held after the LPIC 101 exam has been held.

Payment information will be sent to you once you have registered. You will need to make payment by the 31st March 2007 for us to be able to order the papers.

Please do note that payment made is not refundable once the papers have been ordered. The exam is held at cost and as such, further discounts are not possible.
